Hangzhou airport: When you fly into Hangzhou, you’ll probably fly into the Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (HGH). The Hangzhou airport has several shuttle buses that connect you directly to the downtown area, as well as many neighboring towns and cities. The most popular shuttle is the Wulinmen Line, which connects directly to Hangzhou’s downtown area. It leaves every 15-30 minutes from Gate 14 of the Arrival Hall at the Airport. It takes about 45 minutes and costs 20 CNY. You can also take shuttle buses directly to the major railway stations in Hangzhou. Once you’re downtown, Hangzhou has a really developed public transportation system, so you’ll have no problem getting around.

Hangzhou hotels: If you’re traveling on a budget, don’t worry: Hangzhou has plenty of affordable (and nice) places to stay. Try the Holiday Inn Hangzhou City Center or the Holiday Inn Express. Both are centrally located and great for budget travellers. The Express also offers a complimentary breakfast. If you don’t mind spending a bit more, the Hyatt Regency lets you stay right by the famous and beautiful West Lake and is within walking distance of the Wushan Night Market (two essential things to do in Hangzhou!). Plus, the Hyatt has an airport shuttle that’s available anytime for a small fee.

Things to do in Hangzhou: There’s plenty to do when you plan a visit to Hangzhou! Ready to immerse yourself in ancient Chinese culture? Visit Meijiawu Village, one of the most famous villages for growing Longjing tea, and try a fresh cup of the ancient green tea. Longjing tea has been growing near West Lake for over 1200 years! Fill up on local specialties like beggar’s chicken and fresh fish fried in vinegar gravy at Lou Wei Lou Restaurant or while taking in the sights and sounds on Hefang Street, one of the best places for street food. Visit Hangzhou in the spring and you can even have a chance to pick some of your own tea leaves. Escape the hustle and bustle of city life with a trip around the West Lake. There are small boats that will take you on an hour-long tour of the lake (and even to some islands!) for about 150CNY. Head to the Leifeng Pagoda or take a quick hike up to Mount Baoshi for views of West Lake and for the perfect place to snap some sunset pics for the ‘gram. Hangzhou weather: Hangzhou generally has mild weather year-round, with the rainy season falling in the spring and summer months, between March and August. July and August are Hangzhou’s hottest and most humid months, with the highest potential for typhoons in late summer. Generally, temperatures are in the 70s or higher from April through October. The best time to visit Hangzhou is in late spring or early fall, when the weather is cool and not too rainy. However, these are also the peak tourist seasons. If you’re hoping to avoid some crowds, try visiting in May or June, which is a little hotter, but still bearable, or in November and December, when the weather is cold but dry.
