Columbus airport: The main airport in Columbus, Ohio is the Port Columbus International Airport (aka the John Glenn Airport, CMH). Once you land, it’s super easy to get downtown. It’s about a 15-minute drive if you take a taxi or an Uber. For a cheaper option, hop on the AirConnect bus—it’s just $2.75 and brings you directly downtown from the airport, stopping at several hotels and main streets downtown. It’s about a 40-minute ride and comes every half-hour to the bus stop at the Columbus airport (to the right of the taxi station when you exit the airport). Need a lift while you’re downtown? The CBUS is a free bus service that runs through some of the main downtown areas every 10-15 minutes. Free public transit? Yes, please.

Columbus hotels: Stay right in the heart of downtown at the Holiday Inn Columbus Downtown. It’s just a 5-minute walk from the Columbus Commons, an outdoor common area that hosts summer concerts and other events, and is close to the Scioto River and other downtown must-sees. Another great downtown option is the Doubletree Suites. It’s right by the river and also within walking distance of several museums and other sights. If you want to save a bit of cash, try staying a bit further outside of the downtown area. Columbus has pretty good public transportation, or you could rent a car or snag an Uber to head downtown.

Things to do in Columbus: Columbus is one of those cities that has something for everyone. Art lovers definitely need to check out the Columbus Museum of Art—it’s full of both classical art and modern exhibitions, and it’s free on Sundays! (It’s only $8 for students the rest of the week.) Foodies, fill up on just about any food you can imagine at North Market, including fresh and local food at the weekend farmer’s market. Take a walk or a bike ride along the Scioto Mile: the paved greenway trail that follows the Scioto River. There’s plenty of parks along the way for picnicking and even a 35-foot high outdoor climbing wall! All that walking getting a bit tiring? Hail a FreeRide golf cart—you can spot these golf carts all over downtown. Hail one like a taxi and the driver will give you a free ride.

Columbus weather: The best time to visit Columbus is in May or June. The warmest months, of course, are between May and September. Summers in Columbus are a great time for outdoor concerts, paddleboarding on the river and picnicking in Franklin Park. The rainiest months in Columbus are in late spring. If rain might ruin your plans, you might want to plan your trip for early fall: August and September are the driest months for Columbus. Winters in Columbus can be quite cold but if you have a good winter coat, you can save some money by taking a trip during the off-season! Plus, winter is the perfect time to try Ohio’s famous Skyline 3-Way Chili–spaghetti covered with chili and shredded cheese.
