It’s not every day that a major urban center is so near to picture perfect beaches, but Barcelona brings it. There is rarely a day in Barcelona that isn’t warm enough to take a sandy stroll along the coastline or boardwalk or maybe even get your tan on. If you’d prefer to enjoy the weather by biking or walking, there are plenty of nature reserves and parks around that provide phenomenal views of the city. Tips for flying to Barcelona

Barcelona Airports:

The main airport for traveling in and out of Barcelona is Barcelona International Airport (BCN) in El Prat de Llobregat, aka Barcelona el Prat. This is the closest airport to the city center, about a 20 minute cab ride (about €20) or a 25 minute Aerobus ride (one-way, €5.90). Although there are two alternative airports, each about an hour outside of the city, Reus to the South and Girona to the Northeast, we recommend BCN for the most convenient flights to Barcelona. Barcelona Transportation:

Similar to other large European cities, Barcelona has an award-winning, reliable and effective public transportation system. Your three options for Barcelona travel are the bus, the metro or the tram. You can buy a travel card with access to each mode of public transportation and travel like a true local. A single use ticket is €2.20 but purchase a multi-person T-10 ticket for 10 journeys at only €10.20 if you’re going to to stay in Barcelona for several days. If you’re going to study in Barcelona, we recommend a monthly pass which is €54.

Things to do in Barcelona:

While in Barcelona, you can’t miss the unique architecture of the city, designed by Gaudi. It seems like everywhere you turn you’ll spot colorful mosaics covering park benches or city walls. More famously, visit Gaudi’s beautiful Sagrada Família, and don’t forget to check out the view of the city from the top of the Passion or Nativity tower. Choose the Passion Tower for a slightly higher view directly over Barcelona. Next, visit Park Güell for the Gaudi museum and more breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Pro tip: Buy tickets beforehand. Wander around the Gothic Quarter, just minutes from the beach, to discover Catalan’s best restaurants like Cervesería Catalana (excellent tapas!) and bars like Bar Pastís for nightly live music. Finally, you can’t visit Spain without a stop at the largest football (soccer) stadium, Camp Nou. Trust us, these loud and high energy footballs games are nothing like American soccer games. If you can’t make it to a match, there are daily tours and a museum.

Food & Music in Barcelona:

Partying is a significant part of the Barcelona lifestyle which explains why the city boasts some of the best nightlife in the world. Spend a night (into the morning) at Apolo, La Paloma, and El Xampanyet. Music at these spots ranges from jazz to to techno. Keep in mind Spanish people consider going out anytime before midnight too early. Make sure you get siesta in so that you can make it out to the clubs with the locals.

Tapas are the typical Spanish dish in Barcelona, usually eaten while enjoying a beer or famed Barcelona wine with friends and family. Other than that, be sure to try the paella and its Catalan cousin, Fideua, which is the noodle version. Traditional Catalan food includes Esqueixada, the Catalan ceviche, Suquet de Peix, a seafood potato-based stew and Escalivada, a smokey vegetable dish. So basically, if you're a foodie, you’re guaranteed to fall in love with Barcelona.
