What are the main Bali airport hubs?
The only airport in Bali is the Ngurah Rai International Airport, sometimes referred to as the Denpasar Airport. It’s just a 15-minute drive from Kuta, a town well-known for its surf spots and lively nightlife. Denpasar, the capital, is about 30 minutes away. Ubud, another popular city, is about an hour away. You can take a taxi or a bus.
How to fly from Canada to Bali
Bali isn’t the closest destination to Canada, but it’s worth it for the incredible tropical paradise that awaits you. Unfortunately, there aren’t any direct flights from Canada to Bali (yet), but there are actually lots of amazing places that you can have your layover - everywhere from Singapore (ranked one of the best airports in the WORLD) to Istanbul to Dubai or Doha. Thankfully, whether you’re flying from western or eastern Canada, the flight is about the same length of time (23-25 hours or so, depending on your layover) and there are multiple flights departing daily from most major international Canadian airports.
When is the best time to fly to Bali?
In terms of weather, the best time to visit Bali is between April and October, during dry season. Rainy season can still be an okay time to visit, but your plans may be hampered by the wet weather. Keep in mind that June through August are peak times to visit Bali, so for the best balance of good weather, lower prices and more manageable crowds, visit during shoulder-season: April-May or September-October.
One other thing to keep in mind—Christmas and New Year's are both popular times to visit Bali (who wouldn’t want to escape the winter weather with a trip to paradise?). The holiday season will see higher prices for travel to Bali too as a result.

Bali has a very strong and unique culture that Balinese locals are quite proud of. Although Balinese culture has many notable differences from Western cultures, locals tend to be open and understanding of travelers and other cultures. In general, the culture is very warm—Balinese people tend to be friendly and social. Balinese culture has been shaped by Hindu influences, so be sure to dress appropriately when visiting temples or other sacred sites. If you are humble and respectful of local traditions and customs, you’ll likely find Bali culture warm and welcoming!
Exploring Bali on a student budget
It’s super easy to explore Bali on a student budget! First up, make some time to see some of the many stunning temples: you can learn a lot about Bali’s culture and faith, as well as just enjoying the beautiful architecture. Some temples are free, others have a small fee to get in. Of course, all of Bali’s incredible nature and scenery is free: hike to a waterfall, visit the rice terraces, go to the beach, enjoy a jungle hike—there’s so much to see and explore and it won’t cost you anything! The Tegalalang Rice Terraces are a famous must-visit spot and it’s only 15,000 IDR to enter.
