Things to Do in Austin
Austin Airport:
Find cheap flights to Austin when you fly into the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). In true Austin style, the Austin airport hosts live music almost every day. Head over to Gate 18 in the afternoons if you’re looking to get a taste of Austin’s music culture before you even get into the city. Once you’ve landed and are ready to hit the town, you’ve got a few options: hop on the #20 Bus from the lower level of the Airport and you’ll be in the heart of downtown in about 30 minutes. Single-ride tickets are just $1.25. You can also take an Uber or a Lyft for a quick way to get around!
Austin Hotels:
If you’re staying in Austin, it’s worth it to get a hotel right in the heart of downtown. There’s so much to do, you won’t want to waste any time at all getting back and forth to your hotel! Try the Hyatt Regency Austin, right by the Colorado River or the Residence Inn complete with mini-kitchens in every room - hello, late-night snacking! Need a good budget option? The La Quinta Inn Downtown is a great option and offers a complimentary breakfast, so you get even more bang for your buck! Plus, it’s just a few minutes walk from the Texas Capitol building.
Austin Must-Sees:
Austin has a seemingly endless summer, staying mostly above the 70s for at least eight months of the year. Good news, though: Austin also has an insane amount of swimming holes and pools! First off, head to the Barton Springs Pool inside of Zilker Park, a 3-acre public swimming pool filled by underground springs. It stays at a solid 68-70 degrees year-round, so you can take a quick dip even in January. Lines can get a little long, so come early or head to the back entrance to beat the wait. Once you’re tired of swimming, fill up on all the BBQ you can get your hands on—Franklin Barbecue is ranked one of the best restaurants in Austin and one of the best BBQ spots in the country. Still not stuffed? Say hello to Austin’s food truck scene, where you can taste tacos, Thai food or just about anything else. Austin’s public art scene is also good news for your Instagram: snap a classic shot of the “I love you so much” wall outside of Jo’s coffee in South Congress (and pick up an iced coffee there while you’re at it). Getting too hot outside? Head inside to one of Austin’s many unique exhibitions and museums, like the Museum of Weird or The Color Inside art exhibition.
